How to Recarpet a Cat Tower Safely

Start by looking for loose carpet, exposed staples, worn spots, and areas your cat has scratched through; if the tower wobbles, a post is cracked, or a platform is damaged, repair or replace that structural part before adding new covering. For a multi-level design such as our 68-Inch Multi-Level Cat Tree Tower for Large Cats, you may only need to recover the platforms your cat uses most rather than strip every surface.

Take the tower apart only as far as needed to reach the worn section, keeping screws and hardware organized so you can reassemble it correctly. Pull out the old staples or fasteners, remove loose adhesive, and use the old carpet as a pattern if it came off intact; otherwise, measure each surface and leave enough extra material to wrap around its edges.

Choose a low-pile, tightly woven carpet that your cat can walk on comfortably, and cut a separate piece for each platform or panel rather than forcing one piece around complicated joints. Stretch each piece smooth, fold the edges underneath, and fasten it on the underside with staples or another attachment method suited to the tower’s base material, keeping sharp points and loose edges out of your cat’s reach.
If you use adhesive, follow its directions and let it cure fully in a ventilated area before your cat returns; avoid leaving exposed glue or strong odors on surfaces your cat can lick. Tighten the hardware, confirm that platforms and posts do not shift under pressure, and vacuum away carpet fibers and installation debris before inviting your cat back onto the tower.
Remove the worn covering and its fasteners, cut new low-pile carpet to fit, and secure it with the edges and fasteners tucked away from your cat. Reassemble the tower and test its stability before use.
